"Qui sait déguster ne boit plus jamais de vin mais goûte des secrets ..." Salvador Dali "A true connoisseur is no longer drinking wine but savouring its secrets..." BEST WISHES FOR 2012 Jacqueline, Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée MUGNERET Photo Jean-Louis Bernuy Pressing - 2007 harvest
Every year is different! 2011 spring was exceptionally early and we thought we would start harvesting in August. Summer decided otherwise. The poor weather which prevailed in July and August led us to harvest at the begining of September, and nonetheless we were nearly one month ahead of 2010! This 2011 vintage, harvested under excellent weather conditions, enjoys a great aromatic intensity... It starts maturing in our cellars where it will remain in oak casks for 15 months . Then it will be blended, cuvée by cuvée, before the bottling process due in Spring 2013.
The 2010 vintage was affected by the harsh weather conditions encountered in 2009: late harvested in September, the crop was reduced by 35%. This vintage combines finesse and balance. The beautiful maturity of the fruit, together with a good level of acidity, allows the true expression of each terroir, so typical of Pinot Noir. Seductive and generous, this vintage charms by its vitality... A huge reward for the winegrower after such difficult growing and harvesting conditions. This 2010 vintage will be released as of July 2012.
Our Pré de la Folie vineyards, located in Vosne-Romanée, severely suffered on December 21st 2009 when temperatures dropped down to -20°C (-4°F). Unfortunately, other domains have been affected by these climatic conditions. Tens of hectares stretching along the lower side of National Road 74 remained for far too long under such a deep layer of ice and the vinestocks died. Following a short period of hesitation, very sadly, we decided to pull out this plot of 90 ares (2.2 acres) after the 2010 crop. The vine was replanted with great care in April 2011. The first harvest in this Pré de la Folie's young vine will occur in 2012.
Therefore, Jacqueline is very pleased to come regularly to greet our visitors ans share some time with our faithful customers. The domain today is headed by both Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée.
From the vineyard: The leafing and flowering cycle the summer preceding the 2008 harvest was classical: the vines flowering between the 15th and 20th of June, and growing very evenly in spite of a foul summer, which demanded even more than our usual fastidious attention. A true gardener’s work was necessary for a well-managed and successful harvest. The all-seeing Saint-Vincent granted us a north wind and sunny weather in the days before the harvest, recognizing the need for a smile for discouraged winegrowers. Our faith in the end was richly rewarded. from the Cellar: The 2006 vintage is leaving our cellars for those of our clients, who are captivated by the charm of this vintage: pleasing to the point of encouraging greed, and full of the freshness so typical of our Pinot Noir...this wine will enrapture the impatient winelovers who carefully stored their 2005 bottles for longer aging. The 2007 wines are uncomplicated – a surprise to our visitors - in spite of the unusual weather conditions for this extremely early (September 1st harvest) vintage, notable for its distinct aromas and, like the 2006 vintage, remarkable for the fresh quality that we adore finding in our Côte de Nuits appellations. The 2008’s have started their ageing in casks, and initial tastings already show great clarity and freshness. We’ll have more news in a few months...
The production has been reduced by about 15%, which explains the fact that certain appellations are available only in small quantities. We are entirely at your disposal to send you a reservation form, and will do everything within our means to honour your requests - with the understanding that the number of bottles available is unfortunately quite limited. We invite you as well to contact our distributors, whose addresses you will find under "Distributors."
