Mugneret is a well-known name among winemakers in the Côte de Nuits, particularly in Vosne-Romanée, where it has existed for many generations. The name Gibourg has its origins in the plains of the Saône River, among grain farmers, before the family settled in Vosne-Romanée at the beginning of the century. Jeanne Gibourg (1906-1997) married André Mugneret (1905-1986) and together they created Domaine MUGNERET-GIBOURG in 1933. Georges Mugneret, their only son (1929-1988, see photo) chose the medical field and became an opthamologist in Dijon. He quickly decided, however, to pursue the family profession in parallel with his own career, enlarging and enhancing the family domain with successive purchases of parcels in his own name. Thus was created the Domaine Georges MUGNERET. Dr. Mugneret met his future wife Jacqueline in 1958, while serving in Algeria. Upon their return to France they had two daughters, Marie-Christine in 1959 and Marie-Andrée in 1968. In 1988, following a long illness, Georges Mugneret died, and Jacqueline bravely took over with Marie-Christine, who resigned her position as a pharmacist to specialize in oenology. Marie-Andrée joined them several years later, after having earned her diploma in oenology. The domain today is headed by Jacqueline, Marie-Christine, and Marie-Andrée Mugneret.
